Therapeutic indications

Trichloroacetic acid is used for treating warts.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or any of the excipients and substances closely related to the chemical point of view.

Population

Apply to the affected part of the skin, using a cotton-covered stick. It is necessary to use special caution to avoid contact with the surrounding areas, which must be properly protected. There is no indication of the use of trichloroacetic acid in children.

Warnings

Trichloroacetic acid is a caustic and corrosive agent that can cause irreversible damage. In case of contact with eyes or skin, wash immediately and abundantly with running water. If necessary consult your doctor. Avoid use for prolonged periods on the same skin area. Due to the corrosiveness of the medicinal product, considerable burns may occur in uncontrolled application areas. If applied with cotton ball remove from this excess of liquid on an absorbent material. Since trichloroacetic acid is strongly caustic and corrosive, it is necessary to use maximum caution in the application, avoiding inhalation of the medicinal product and its contact with eyes, mucous membranes and skin integrates. Interactions

Effects

Overdosing

Excessive application of the medicinal product may cause severe burns. Acute exposure Accidental ingestion can cause gastrointestinal irritation and corrosion, with strong pains in the mouth, throat and abdomen, violent vomiting, hematemesis and diarrhea. Acute inhalation can cause coughing, suffocation, dizziness and weakness followed by dyspnea, pulmonary edema, foamy condom, cyanosis, hypotension, tachycardia and increase of red blood cells and heatocrite. Chronic exposure Chronic inhalation can cause erosion of dental enamel, jaw necrosis, bronchial irritation, chronic cough, frequent attacks of pneumonia and gastrointestinal disorders. The formation and accumulation of trichloroacetic acid can cause solvent encephalopathy found in some patients chronically exposed to trichloroethylene.

Pregnancy There is no adequate data regarding the use of trichloroacetic acid in pregnant women. The potential risk for man is not known. However, since the absorption of the drug can be considered negligible, it is very unlikely that relevant quantities reach breast milk.
