Therapeutic indications

Painkiller in the simple inflammations of the ear canal.

Contraindications

Severe Miastenia, hypersensitivity and idiosyncrasia to procaine or fenazone. Perforation of infectious or traumatic timpane.

Population

After careful cleaning, with dry cotton, of the ear canal instill 3-4 drops of Otomidone in the ear canal, taking care that the earcup of the patient is in a horizontal position. Stay in this position at least 5 minutes. Repeat the instillation of the medicine every hour until pain is stopped. Later for one - two days medicate every 2-3 hours. After instillation close the auditory conduit with a cotton ball or better yet with a strip of horrid gauze. OTOMIDONE can also be used lukewarm by heating the water bottle before use. Do not exceed the recommended doses; in particular, elderly patients should comply with the above-mentioned minimum dosages.

Warnings

The products for topical application can give rise to phenomena of sensitization or irritation: in this case stop treatment and consult your doctor. Do not protract drug administration over ten days: in any case after a short period of treatment (one - two days) without appreciable results, consult your doctor. Keep out of reach of children. In the presence of local injuries the possibility of systemic effects from increased absorption of procaine and phenazone should be observed. As a precautionary measure, before administering the product ensure the integrity of the timpane membrane. The container of this medicine consists of latex rubber. It can cause severe allergic reactions.

Effects

The use of phenazone, whether by systemic means, has been associated with a high risk of agranulocytosis; this drug, as well as procaine, can give allergic reactions in sensitive subjects and, following absorption, also anaphylactic manifestations. In case of drilling of the timpane the product, in contact with the structure of the average ear can determine side effects at such level. In the event of undesirable effects of different types, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Overdosing

No known symptoms of hyperdose.

In pregnant women the product must be administered under the direct control of the doctor and only in cases of actual need.
