A callo is a localized thickening of the skin, caused by repeated pressure or friction in an area, often on the foot. The body produces an excessive amount of skin cells, to try to protect itself from pressure, thus forming a layer of dead and hardened skin. The pressure continues to force the dead skin cells to take a typical form, penetrating the deeper skin layers. When it reaches the nerve endings, the callo becomes painful.
The pit relieves the pressure from the callo to the surrounding area. Hydrocolloid technology creates an optimal environment for healing and deeply moisturizes the callo, soaking it in order to facilitate its removal.
